Hi all, this whole virus/pop-up situation is driving me crazy!!!! I actually got a very nasty e-mail yesterday, the person cussed me out, called me all sorts of nasty names, and said that if they find anything wrong with their computer that they will hold me responsible. And two comments yesterday saying they have removed me from their favorites and will never be coming back. I have done everything I can do. I contacted the blogger help group and the people that responded said they got NO pop-up or viruses when visiting my blog so they can do nothing to help me track it- if they can't even see it.
At this point the only thing I can do it close this blog down and start a new one, I don't know how long that will take me to do. And I don't know if I want to put all that work into starting a new one if the same thing can easily happen again....If there is anyone out there who might know how to fix this problem and wants to help me or... do it for- me please let me know.
Man this really sucks!!! I have worked so hard to get to this point, I have tons of visitors and I feel like I have become friends with so many of you! I just don't understand how someone can get into my blog and put pop-ups and a virus in it. A BIG HUGE SIGH from me today :( Ginger

I just wanted to let you know that I love your site and visit you you blogspot on a daily basis.
I have never picked up any kind of virus or pop-ups. The person complaining probably got it somewhere else.

Ginger, try deleting your widgets on the side. It's a running popup so it's something that is "running" on your blog.
I'm so sorry you're getting harrassed about this. Don't stress too much. Anyone who is not a moron has popup blockers and virus scanners. I haven't had any problems with the very few popups I've gotten.
If it helps, I get the same popups from sassypixie's blog. So it's probably the same thing.

I loooove your site and visit it pretty regularly. I haven't gotten any pop-ups either, but I do have a pop-up blocker on my browser. I don't remember how it got there, but I'm sure your readers can download one, or it may even be an option on their browser settings.
Keep your chin up - nothing you can do about those who are giving up. They are missing out! :)
im not sure what the problem is.. but if it helps i only get pop-up ads/windows if im using Mozilla Firefox as my web browser... if i use Internet Explorer (which i hate) i have no problems. has anyone else told you what browser they were using when they had problems?

Hi, Ginger! I just discovered your blog today, and I love your work! I am using Firefox, and I got no pop-ups or virus warnings, so I tend to agree with RaNae that it is from their own machine... these things can hide & only come out when they want to! As they say, don't sweat the petty stuff... LOL!! And I promise, I'll be back to visit you again!
I am so sorry! I love your site. I'm here every day and have filled up my hard drive several times! I NEVER get any pop-ups at all, not even being blocked. Even if I did, I would still be back. Keep your chin up, it will work out!!
I wouldn't worry too much about what people are saying and giving you a hard time.
First, I use Firefox as my browser which is free and has a setting so you can block pop-up windows. I suggest that the people having problems either check their settings on the browser that they are using or download Firefox. I surf the web a lot and wouldn't know what to do without this nifty feature.
Second, I own a Mac so there is no worries about viruses. I would hope that people using PCs would have invested in some good anti-virus software...and...oh, don't forget your spyware. Yup..I remember those days when downloading anything while those programs were running in the background gave me nothing but a major headache.
Don't worry! Keep up the good work! I will continue to visit every day!!

Ginger...I did notice one yesterday, but I wasn't paying close enough attention to see when it showed up...if I actually clicked on a freebie and it came from their site or if it came from yours. Today I actually paid attention and it came from your site when I first opened it up from the feed reader. I do have a pop-up blocker and it did not catch this. I've never had any problems with your site. I did get one popup on your site today from yellow dot com (telephone directory site) using Internet Explorer. No biggie; I just closed the box. Don't get discouraged. Everyone should just install their own pop-up blockers.
I love your blog and never experienced any problems. My firewall, pop-up blocker and virus protection make sure of that. I don't even have any pop-ups coming from your site.
These people complaining should take care of protecting their pc - it's their responsibility and not yours. They could catch a virus from everywhere - how are they to prove it comes from visiting your blog?
Don't let them get to you and continue with your blog - it really is a great site and you are so generous in offering your time to check for freebies and offering those wonderful freebies yourself. It's their loss, not yours!

I've been here a few times and so far no popups. I use Internet Explorer version 7 which has a built in pop blocker.
Don't let hateful people get to you. There is no way they can hold you responsible for what happens to their computer. They can't prove you did anything on purpose and most likely the pop comes from something in their system.

I love your blog and haven't had any problems with pop-ups until today when one snuck through my blocker from http://www.serovera.com/ I can't understand why people don't install pop-up blockers and virus protection. Please don't be discouraged and don't listen to the nasties. There are plenty of people out there who love what you do.

Hey Ginger, Don't fret. I had the same problem with your site but after a few tweaks with my norton security, it's been fine since. Don't worry about those people. You are doing an awesome job and are so generous with your feebies that they should be thanking you instead of cussing you out! You have done all you can do and don't worry because all the people that REALLY matter will continue to keep looking and showing you love! Bug HUGS!

I'm so sorry that someone could think that you're responsible for this and could be so rude. I wish I could help you out. I do get the ebay pop up at home but not at work, so it may actually be something that triggers something on a computer that is not well protected. (Mine at work is close to Fort Knox, it's so tight). Hope you can get this worked out. Off to read the rest of the comments. Hope you realize that more people like your site than don't.
Sorry that this is happening. When I visit, something tries to pop up, but Firefox stops it. Maybe those people need to get smart enough to get a pop-up blocker :) Hang in there!
*Sigh* Why do some people have to be so nasty? Especially when you are doing all this work for us so we can have freebies? I agree with everyone who said the problem is probably with something on their end, not yours. If people are going to be on the Internet, they need to take the right precautions! Not blame somebody's site that is hosted by a well known blog service! :-) Sorry you had to deal with those comments....hopefully all of our *nice* comments will make you feel better? Ginger sorry this is happening to you. My virus blocker came up with an alert when I came onto your blog to leave you a comment (8/7/08 at 7:30 PM).
Sorry people are being so rude. I would suggest that if you start another blog that you have a disclaimer at the top saying this is a freebie and I do everything possible to keep my blog free from viruses and spyware but things may occasionaly get by so please use virus/spyware protection and download at your own risk. (LOL from me! )

I visit your site almost daily, and have NEVER had a problem with any pop-ups or viruses. Whoever is sending you these hateful messages needs to get a life. It's their responsibility to install anti-virus software &/or pop-up blockers on their computer...not yours!

I'm sorry about all the nastiness. I also get pop ups from your site that my pop up blocker doesn't get. I use Internet Explorer exclusively. I haven't received any sort of virus threat though. I just close the window - no big deal. I'm not a techie so I can't help. Maybe try asking the question in forums of the big sites that you like (live out loud, for example). They probably have a technical person there. Hope it resolves soon. I love your site.
I have never experienced a popup with your blog. I use Google Reader to browse it. Please keep up the work you do on this blog, it's so great! Thank you!
Wow Ginger, yes it sucks, but mostly what sucks is the complainers! Try not to let them get to you, it's a small percentage to be sure. I do get popups but get them from many sites serviced by blogger. I routinely get full screen ads for 17" wheels, swords, certain computer games and on the french sites some drug/beauty store. They show up in the system tray, or sometimes the browser tabs. I run IE through SlimBrowser, and my popup blockers don't consider these popups, they are websites that self-open. Heck if I know why, I don't think I need 17" wheels or a sword to digital scrapbook. I have never (and I do know computers) gotten anything approaching a virus from your site. Nothing, nada, zip. IMHO I would relax about it, and continue to research. Sometimes things sort themselves out. Blessings, and Hugs!
Ginger, I agree with all the other folks who have commented already -- I've been visiting your site daily (sometimes several times a day!) since you started it & have never had any popups or any other problems with it. I'm using Firefox & I don't even have the popup blocker telling me that its blocking anything -- so I don't really thing they're getting it from you. (By contrast, when I visit many French digital scrapping blogs, Firefox is telling me that it blocked 3,4, 5 or more popup windows from opening!)
You've done so much for us & we're so grateful -- you're site has a spot right up there on my toolbar so I don't have to dig through "favorites" every time I want to visit you --- does that tell you how much we love you???

I too have never had a pop up or a virus notice when visiting your blog. I think this person needs to either get a dog and name it Life or actually hire an IT person to check their computer. Thanks for all the work that you do for us.
Ginger, I don't think this is you or your site - something else is happening. Perhaps the people with these problems have a certain kind of browser that is vulnerable to the ads? I have NEVER gotten a pop up from your site, or any warnings from my virus software. Anyone who would call you names when you have been trying to clear this up is not worth worrying over. Hope things get better!
I am sorry that you are getting nasties. I got 10 really crude and hateful text pictures left as comments on my blog and have had to change settings so that Anonymous comments can't be left, and have enabled comment moderation.
There are so many of us who visit your blog daily and NEVER have problems please don't let a few spoil it for the rest of us.

Basic Cboxes are ad-supported. Adverts must be visible to third party visitors – configurations that obscure or render the adverts invisible are not permitted.
I think that you need to delete your Comment Box!

How horrible! Maybe the problem is the other people. I have NEVER had a problem with pop-ups on your site. Apparently these people who are harrassing you don't know how to protect their own computers. It's sad that they are blaming their faults on you.

I just wanted you to know...I get no pop-ups when visiting your site. I am kinda geeky when it comes to computers and usually if someone is getting popups its because THEIR computer has adware or spyware and no matter where they go on the internet they will have problems. Maybe you should take a poll to find out the percentage of folks that visit that are having problems. Remember...its inevitable that you will get a CRANKY person visiting your site. My turn is coming! ROFLMBO :) Chin up...I definitely know it's a lot of work.

See...I told you sis! Everyone loves you. You have 100s of visitors every day. You just have to blow off the very few that are complaining. They need to fix their own computers. Just stick with it, your blog is perfect how it is. Quit worrying about theses haters and do what you love, designing and freebie hunting! Love you!
I visit your blog nearly every day and haven't had any problems. I agree that other people need to check their computers. Maybe they already have a virus that is causing the popups?? I don't know, but please don't take this site down. I love it! You always have the best freebies and weed out the ones that aren't that great.
I've never had a problem with pop-ups here either. I use IE's popup blocker and it works just fine. Please don't let a couple of people shut down your great site. I so look forward to coming here every day and would really miss you. If someone has a problem with pop-ups here, the solution is very simple for them.....just dont come here!!! You're not going to miss a few people and you'll make the rest of us very, very happy. You know the old saying..."you can please some of the people all of the time, etc., etc. You just keep up the good work and I hope everyone appreciates how hard you work to find all the goodies for us. :)

There have been a few links from your site they have given me popups. One in particular sends my Norton in to overdrive. I don't think it is your site, just maybe those you have links to. No one should hold you responsible (nor complain) for this wonderfully FREE service you provide.

It's the nature of the internet...fighting the icky stuff is a never-ending battle. At the end of each day I run spyware doctor and it neatly restores peace on my pc.
I am so sorry you are having to deal with peoples negativity. Ginger you can not make everybody happy so don't sweat that. (I know easier said than done.) Also I have not received any pop ups.
